We’d like to say welcome to our new(ish) Personal Trainer, Louis, to motive8 North. Having survived his first two months, and making a huge impact in his personal training sessions and classes, we thought we’d invite you to find out more about him, what makes him tick, what he likes to do in the gym, which exercises he hates.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU HAVE?

I am a qualified Personal Trainer. I also studied at Loughborough doing my BSc in Sports Science and currently doing my MSc in Nutrition in Practice to become a certified Nutritionist. Like exercise, I find people can over complicate nutrition and if you just concentrate on the basics it can take you a long way. That’s probably reflected in the way I train people.

WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A PERSONAL TRAINER?

It’s such a rewarding job in my eyes. I had helped a few friends discover the gym at university showing them that it’s not a big scary place and actually everyone there is on their own little journey. After seeing their attitudes and bodies change over the years, I knew I wanted to do that for a career

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES?

I love going for walks, eating tasty food and watching sport. After being a professional rugby player for a few years, it’s always nice to see old teammates doing well on the big screen. Apart from that, I enjoy socialising with friends, going out on fun days out and watching a good film.

WHAT IS YOUR TOP TRAINING TIP?

Keep it simple! Full body movements, running, lots of greens and protein in your diet will take you most of the way.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE EXERCISE?

It’s difficult to choose one. It’s between a burpee and a bear crawl, both are awesome for cardiovascular and strength development. If you’re unsure of what a bear crawl is, I am always happy to share!!

WHAT’S YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE EXERCISE?

Step ups… just never got on with them

HOW DO YOU LIKE TO TRAIN?

It varies, at the moment I’m doing some German Body Composition training and seeing great results from that. I always like to have a desired outcome for a couple of weeks, strength goals, body weight or even time in heart rate zones for fitness. I think that’s what drives me to develop

WHAT MUSIC DO YOU LIKE TO LISTEN TO WHILST TRAINING?

Mainly good dance tunes but also some rap, grime or rock can bring out a bit of controlled aggression!
