So, is the saying true….couples who train together stay together? Just in case it is, and because love is in the air this Valentine’s week we have put a couple’s workout routine together for you to try! So, courtesy of the personal training team at motive8 North here is a body weight workout which you can do any place, any time…and fall in love!

Couples Workout

Warm Up – Jog to a football pitch or park where you can perform intervals. Or warm up on the treadmill.

Intervals – If you can’t perform sprints then substitute the sprints with a cardiovascular exercise such as burpees, mountain climbers, power squats, star jumps, etc!

All sprint intervals are done to the half way line and back.

1. Person A = Sprint as fast as possible.  Person B = Press Ups – Switch with each other, repeat x 2.

2. Person A = Sprint as fast as possible.  Person B = Squats – Switch with each other, repeat x 2.

3. Person A = Sprint as fast as possible.  Person B = Plank – Switch with each other, repeat x 2.

4. Person A = Sprint as fast as possible.  Person B =  Walking Lunges – Switch with each other, repeat x 2.

5. Person A = Sprint as fast as possible.  Person B = Pull Ups (on a railing if available) – Switch with each other, repeat x 2.

6. Person A = Sprint as fast as possible.  Person B = Glute Bridges – Switch with each other, repeat x 2.

Here are some stats to show that couples who train together stay together…..and to encourage you to do our couples workout!

1. Share the love….Studies show that those partners who train together feel happier in their relationship and feel more in love with each other.

2. Increase your success of achieving your goals….if both you and your partner are working towards a health & fitness related goal you’re both more likely to stick to healthy eating and a training plan.

3. Increase your emotional bond….research shows that couples who train together have a higher emotional bond and also that you have a tendency to mimic each other as you workout. Check each other in the mirror the next time you workout together, you will be squatting and lunging in time!

So grab your boyfriend or girlfriend by the hand, or if you’re single grab someone you fancy in the gym and do our couples workout routine this Valentine’s week!
