Chris Baird’s Circuit Training Class
Exercise

Today’s training plan called for a ‘weights/strength’ session. I normally have a plan I follow in the gym, but as I had to nip to our Marshall Court studio for something this evening I decided I would join in Chris Baird’s circuit training class.
I always have personal training clients on a Monday when Chris’ class is on, which I don’t mind. Training my clients is always priority and my own training can fit around them which is why I normally do it earlier in the day, but as I had the day off today it was a perfect excuse to go along to the class. Each Monday a dedicated bunch of people come along to Chris’ class and work their socks off so I thought I’d give it a go this week and be put on the ‘pain train’ by Mr Baird!
The class was great! And as I sit and write this I can tell there is going to be some DOMS tomorrow. My traps are already tight and my glutes a little tender! Bring it on I say!
I think many people are scared of trying a new class, but Chris (as are all of our instructors!) is great! He looks after everyone in the class, makes sure their technique is ok and is always there to encourage you to push out that last rep! He is also well known for his rubbish jokes and cheesy phrases but he kept those at bay tonight….maybe it’s because the boss was around!
My legs were really tight after the class tonight, a combination of quite a bit of heavy running and not enough stretching last week (tut, tut!) so after I’d got home I hit the foam roller. I swear by my foam roller for helping with muscle soreness and tightness. I have a grid foam roller as I prefer these as the little ‘nobbly’ bits help to get a little bit deeper into the muscles and alleviate the tension caused by hard training.
After circuits it was a post-workout snack of blueberries, then a healthy tea of an omelette with roasted vegetables. Plus lots of water to keep me hydrated!
I have an 8 mile steady state run planned tomorrow, I’m sure there will be a few winces as my glutes yelp out with a bit of DOMS. But I know once I get into my run it will wear off….fingers crossed anyway!
