As the mornings are drowned in darkness and the days struggle to see sunlight we all have that occasional feeling were we look in the mirror and see baggy eyes and tired out skin. The cold weather can dry out our skin and make us tired. This blog is going to look into how to get rid of baggy eyes and how to rejuvenate your skin to get the skin complexion you want….and you thought we only blogged about exercise!!
The types of food and drink we consume have a significant impact on the condition and tone of your skin. Yes it is important to moisturise your skin daily however in order to insure your skin is in tip top condition the process is a little more skin deep than the usual ‘cleanse-tone-moisturise’ routine. Making changes to your diet and exercise routine is the only way to long term ‘smooth as a baby’s bum softness!’
Healthy Oils for Healthy Skin
The skin has three layers. The middle layer known as the Dermis has a fast cell turnover. In order for this to happen effectively the body needs vitamin E as well as essential fatty acids such as Omega 3, 6 and 9 which are found in Nuts, seeds and oily fish. These are all fantastic for your skin as they reduce skin inflammation and accelerate derma cell integrity. So to help towards that flawless complexion ensure you add nuts and fish to your food intake.
Internal Effecting the External Affairs
The effectiveness of your stomach and intestines is reflective on the quality of your skin. The toxicity created in the stomach and intestines resulting from ongoing constipation, food intolerance or allergies could be the root to your skin condition. Many people who have been diagnosed with an allergy or intolerance report better skin complexion and reduction in baggy eyes ones their diet is modified. When your bowels are not working efficiently your skin can act as an excretory organ. When you are extremely constipated and have food intolerance issues toxins that would normally be excreted through the bowels are released into general blood circulation. The toxins then make their way to your skin, were they are then sweated out through skin pores. Resulting in dry, dull cracked and irritated skin.
One way to overcome this type of skin condition is to complete a food sensitivity test to identify possible food intolerances. This issue of constipation and stomach upset can be due to the change in diets as summer turns into winter. People ditch the healthy foods and salads and opt for more stodgy alternatives like bread and potatoes! Not only do we know that eating habits like this result in weight gain they also result in a reduction in bowl movement resulting in fatigue causing those annoying bags under the eyes and a poor complexion. It is really important to eat healthy foods and fruit and vegetables to aid bowel movement.
Hormone Balance
Bad skin conditions are often caused by an imbalance in sex hormones. High levels in testosterone result in a high level of Sebum being excreted through our pores. This results in infected and clogged skin pores. Although it is important to give our faces a good scrub and important to ensure our diet is healthy exercise is also key to help banish those eye bags and smooth that skin. Testosterone levels can become elevated in women with high stress lives in their life. For both men and women, a deficiency in the minerals Zinc and Magnesium can lead to hormone imbalances. Cutting out caffeine and eating foods high in Zinc and Magnesium such as pumpkin seeds (any excuse to carve a pumpkin at this time of year!), fish, green leafy vegetables can help address acne and other skin complaints.
