From meeting Jenny after finishing my undergraduate degree I knew instantly that personal training in Leeds with Motive8 North was the job for me. The last 4 years have been one of the steepest learning curves of my life, nothing can prepare you for this job!

I’m still in shock that I’ve only been doing this for 4 years! However 14 hour work days have now become a thing of normality, and if I’m being honest I truly enjoy the tempo of work. People think personal trainers are a bit of a loopy bunch but its really simple, we truly love what we do.

When I’m not writing clients programs, looking at nutrition plans or working on courses for Motive8 North I’m reading about the human body. I’m learning constantly, not because I’m forced to, or I feel a need to, I simply love physical training and learning about the human body and improving its efficiency/ performance.

Having the knowledge is one thing but transferring it to clients is a whole different story. Being a personal trainer at Motive8 North isn’t just about giving you a list of facts and sending you off. I pride myself in being able to transfer what I’ve learnt into physical results, after all theory is just that!

My clients are often amazed at how differently I set out their nutritional plans, how I format each individuals training and the types of programs I deliver with individuals. I’ve used Russian weightlifting templates, gymnastic preparatory programs, variations of powerlifting programs, old school Eastern Block body composition programs, I’ve even used formatting from 1940’s sprinters training logs with clients.

The most important thing I’ve learnt at Motive8 North is that every single individual we come into contact with is exactly that…. an individual. However saying that there are a few things that have been consistent with my most successful clients. Here are the list of traits you need to muster if you want to achieve your goals:

  1. Preparation: Clients that spend that 2 hours on Sunday planning what they are going to eat during the week always do well. The statement couldn’t be more true…. failing to prepare is preparing to fail!
  2. Commitment: I’ve written about this before, its one thing been motivated, but another to be a committed individual. Commitment is getting up for training at 6am 4 months long after the motivation of starting a fitness mission has worn out. It’s just simply a matter of time until these individuals hit their goals
  3. They ask questions: If you ever find yourself going to see a personal trainer and their not hounding you about your nutrition or the training your doing in your own time.. fire them and get another.

In summary I don’t believe there is a better personal training company in Leeds than Motive8 North. Working for Motive8 North has allowed me and my colleagues to flourish in an environment that promotes education, development and most importantly results with clients.
