It’s probably fair to say that the majority of us neglect stretching. Yet flexibility is actually key to a lot of activities we undertake on a day to day basis, and can also help us avoid injuries. When I started doing Freestyle Fitness Yoga, I became a yoga convert. Here was something that you could actually see and feel progression of whilst you were participating in that class. For example, at the start of the class I can’t touch my toes, but through a sequence of postures and stretches, I can! How amazing is that!
We specifically included fitness yoga as a stretching session as part of one of our Running Club schedule. If you missed this, here are some simple yoga stretches for runners
Standing Forward Fold
Great for Hamstrings and Back Flexion.
Warrior 1
Stretching those Hip Flexors and Strengthening the Quads
Butterfly
Opening up the Hips and giving your Lower Back a Stretch
Downward Facing Dog
Lengthens your back and stretches everything from the arches of your Feet up through the Shoulders.
