We are pleased to introduce everyone to our new gym instructor – Harry! A University of York graduate, Harry is excited to become a part of the team and help class members and clients break through their boundaries. He may be new to motive8, but with a budding MMA fighting career and enthusiasm by the boatload, Harry is ready to push our fitness limits! Read on…

What was the attraction of becoming a gym instructor?

I’ve always been into sport, even when I was very little I was always active and took part in as many sports as I could. As I got older and particularly as I started taking MMA more seriously, I became more interested in sports performance and how strength and conditioning could improve my performances in the cage. I’ve also always enjoyed teaching and meeting lots of different people so a job in sport that requires communication skills was a really exciting opportunity.

Do you train?

Yes! I train 6 days a week, normally for a minimum of an hour and a half a day. Most of my training is specific to MMA but I also do strength and conditioning sessions alongside “roadwork” cardio.

What do you like/dislike?

I like watching the Ultimate Fighting Championship, listening to UK rap and eating steak! I dislike people who leave weights lying around, stubbed toes waiting to happen!

Your top training tip?

Find exercises that you enjoy! There’s nothing worse than being stuck in a workout that you hate! Not that there aren’t times when you need to tough it out and push through. However, if you’re enjoying yourself then all of a sudden 30 minutes, an hour or even more will have disappeared and you’re fitter, stronger and healthier for it!

Tell us a bit about MMA!

I am currently an amateur MMA fighter with a record of 2 wins and no losses. I’ve been training for about 5-6 years now and am still completely obsessed! MMA has introduced me to some of the toughest but also kindest and most friendly people in the world from all corners of the globe and I hope to emulate that same attitude everyday!

We’re really excited to have Harry as part of the team and we’re sure you’ll like him too!
