interval training

The excuses are already rolling in for not working out over the Christmas Period…I’m busy with family, I’m not at work so won’t be near the gym and so on and so on. But here’s a lovely festive interval training session which only requires a timer. No kit, no excuses. Get it done!

These are all Tabata workouts – so 20 seconds of maximum effort with 10 seconds of rest; alternating between 2 exercises for 4 minutes. There’s a mix of cardio, body weight resistance and core exercises. You may need a chair or step for tricep dips but that is honestly it.

These interval training sessions are great for fat burning, improving your fitness levels, and quite frankly, just blasting away the cobwebs and invigorating you after a few mince pies too many!

You can just choose one set of exercises or mix and match – totally up to you! Make sure you warm up and mobilise everything before your start.

Cardio Tabatas

  • Run Forward Run Back / Ninja (jump forward, run back)
  • Side to Side / Star Jumps
  • 10 High Knees 10 Low Knees/ Skaters

Resistance Tabatas

  • Kneel & Get Up / Tricep Dips
  • Squat / Press Ups
  • Lunges /  Elbow to Hand Plank

Core Tabatas

  • Ab Cycles / mountain climbers
  • Side planks/ toe touches
  • Squirms / Russian Twists

Give this festive interval training session a go and let us know how you get on!
