Nutrition and Healthy Eating

Whilst the phrase “eat clean” has pretty much disappeared into the ether, there will be a renewed focus in 2024 on the reduction of processed food. With overweight and obesity-related chronic diseases such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes on the rise, the trend will be shifting to well-rounded diets with more plannt based produce (actual plants and not processed plant-based proteins), less sugar and more sustainable ingredients. It’s time to up your game on the nutritional front!

Mental Health

Based on the number of articles around the trends for 2024, there will be an upsurge in Breathwork. Studies have shown how specific breathing techniques can help open up lungs and better equip the mind, body and soul to deal with stress. Combine breathwork with mindfulness meditation, yoga and tai chi – you have a mind-body workout which is essentially a comprehensive fitness routine.

Recovery & Well-being

Think longevity, mobility, prehab and recovery. Strength training for people in their 50s and 60s, ice baths, saunas, stretch and mobilisation routines and massage become a key focus for 2024. Foam rollers, massage guns, reformer pilates and cold water exposure also feature in the predictions for 2024.

Small Group Training

There is an emphasis on ensuring inclusivity in gyms and training, with a real push to the sense of community that training with others can bring. This can be in a fitness class environment, or as a small group of people training with a Personal Trainer.

Holistic Fitness

With the focus for 2024 being more towards a health conscious phase of fitness. With longevity, recovery, community and well-being featuring in the top 10 of fitness trends – the industry is truly embracing a holistic approach to fitness. Fitness will no longer simply be about working out your muscles.

Whatever you decide to focus on for 2024, make positive changes in a gradual way so that they are sustainable and enjoyable.
